Santiago
and the arts
Santiago
and the arts The arts of Santiago cover a wide range of
expressions: like a heart they pulse in every corner of this
town. There are street artists who would deserve to be admired
for hours, as well as painters, poets, sculptors and musicians
at the most refined level.
One
of the most astonishing aspects of Santiago is the contrast
between the growth of a modern metropolis and the urgency of
expression coming from the soul of the people. The history of
the Chilean arts reflects naturally two souls: the heart of the
original populations of the country before the colonial society
and the new style created afterwards.
With
this tour we will see a wonderful collection of fabrics, musical
instruments, ceramics, sculptures and paintings documenting the
local societies preceding the discovery of America, like that of
the Mapuche culture, and we will confront them with furniture
and objects created by the new society of Chile in the following
centuries, importing European models of art. We will also
understand the relation and the constant dialog between Chile
and Europe, or Chile and North America.
Along
with the discovery of masterpieces in some churches, your
adventure will include stops in the Museum of Bellas Artes, or
in the Museo Interactivo Mirador. In the 1800s we assist to the
development of a wonderful school of painting, and seeing the
masterpieces created by the local artists. New artistic currents
where developed in Chile after World War Two, just think of the
genial painter Matta, so that we will complete our tour with an
immersion in the world of contemporary art.
