The artisans

An entire world of traditional handicrafts begins to appear in front of your eyes when you take this tour: hand made fabrics, sweaters and ponchos in alpaca or lama wool, miniatures and models of characteristic buildings, hats and musical instruments : these are just some of the things you can find together with carpets and sculptures in toconao stone. 

Each region in Chile has its handicrafts. But if we stay in Santiago we will see a strong tradition in working wood and straw and making terracotta pottery for your kitchen: a gratin cooked in the oven on a hand made plate would not taste the same as one prepared in an industrial pan! We could visit a village where terracotta is the main activity of all the inhabitants, without forgetting that the most famous object of all Chilean handicrafts are those made with the wonderful lapis lazuli stone. 

We will find the most exquisite jewelry in some artisan shops for the most convenient prize, learning to distinguish the most precious lapis lazuli from the common ones, and visit the atelier of an artisan who creates lamps, paintings, necklaces and more, to appreciate the inexhaustible fantasy and creativity of Chile. We will visit a specialized fair, discover hidden shops and a special market, in order to compare prices and works of art.
