days)
Day
1 - Discovering the Urban Landscape:
Santiago is one of those towns which rewards enormously the love
you spend in finding its spirit. It may require patience, but
behind the traumas of the history we find the evolution of the
idea of a town throughout the centuries. We will help you grasp
the feeling of the landscape and its architecture which hides
real art treasures with a surprising succession of the most
imposing and interesting perspectives in town. We will go visit
the centers of power, economy and religion. We will see the
Centro de La Moneda, the Barrio Paris Londres and the Museo
Historico Nacional where you will approach the monumental side
of Santiago. This was the center for politics, culture and
religion. We will take the Teleferico and enjoy an air view of
the entire town. The private dream house of the most famous poet
of Chile offers an unforgettable experience of the lifestyle and
architecture of an artist in the 1950s, surrounded by the
bohemian atmosphere of an area which creates a sort of ideal
island: the Bellavista District. We'll end the day in a
wonderful garden.
Day
2 - Discovering Chilean Art:
We'll introduce you to the masterpieces of the best Chilean
painters to understand their style. You will learn about the
differences between paintings with allegorycal subjects and
paintings with profane themes, like military events and
portraits of the Chilean society throughout the centuries. We
will help you discover fabrics, ceramics, sculptures and
paintings documenting the local societies preceding the
discovery of America, and we will confront them with furniture
and objects created afterwards by the new society of Chile. You
will visit two of the best museums of classical and contemporary
art. In the end you will know how the history of the arts
reflects naturally two souls which cross the character of Chile:
the arts of the original populations of the country before the
colonial society and the new style created afterwards.
Day
3 - Discovering the natural side and the vineyards:
With this tour you will grasp the original meaning of what was
written about Chile in 1558 by Pedro de Valdivia: "This is
an ideal place to settle and spend the rest of your life"
for the quality of climate and nature. You can visualize the
territorial dimension of Santiago, with the surrounding natural
environment of parks and hills, dominated by the spectacular
crown of the Andes, and we will go for the day to visit the most
famous natural reserve near Santiago, in the morning. You will
find luxuriant vegetation, extraordinary valleys and the
possibility to stop for an exquisite lunch to taste some of the
most characteristic dishes in the Chiliean cuisine. After lunch
we will go visit a vineyard, which is simply unforgettable. You
just have to take this tour and see the gorgeous hills and
haciendas where the best wines in world are produced today and
taste them. Families of grapes which disappeared in Europe have
survived in Chile!
